Adding banner and profile pictures

Adding banner and profile pictures

Introduction

Great images will make a huge difference to your page. You should use high resolution images, so they are sharp and not blurry, and pictures that are bright and colourful. Please make sure you have permission to use any photos that you upload to your page.

Adding or changing a banner image

The banner image is the picture shown at the top of your page. The name of your page is shown in white on top of the banner image, so a partly transparent block of grey is automatically placed over the top of the banner image to make it easier to read your page name. When you create a new page the banner image is shown in white, making the partly transparent block of grey more visible.

Your banner image should allow for the fact that (a) the bottom quarter of the image will be partly covered by the title text, profile picture, favourite icon and (depending on the page) footprint icon, and (b) when looking at your page on a smartphone screen, the image will be cropped and so the sections at the edges will not be displayed.

The dimensions of the image on the widest screens is 1140 pixels x 275 pixels; if you upload a larger image it will be automatically resized but a smaller image may look blurry.

  1. Log in to Izele and go to the page that you manage and want to change the banner image.
  2. There should be a change image icon in the top left hand corner of the banner image space Change image icon.png. When you point at the icon a message saying “Update the page banner” should appear.
  3. Click on the change image icon to open the Update your page banner dialog box. Follow the instructions to upload an image or drag and drop the file.
  4. The image should load and be displayed in the Update your page banner dialog box.
  5. The page banner section on your page is long and thin and so you need to choose an image that either has similar dimensions or can be cropped to have the right dimensions.
  6. If the image already has the correct dimensions, click on the Save image button.
  7. If the image does not have the correction dimensions then click on the Crop image button. The image should now be greyed out, apart from a rectangle near the top of the image that has four white squares at its corners. You can move this rectangle around the image and change its size by dragging and dropping the white squares. When you are happy with where the rectangle is placed, click on Save image and the area you have selected will become your banner image.
  8. Izele should return to your page and show your new banner image. If you want to change the picture then just go through the steps above again with a new image.

Adding or changing a profile picture

The profile picture is shown next to the page name and also appears throughout the Izele website whenever your page is listed. When you create a page Izele adds the default profile picture. For your personal page, you might want to choose a profile picture of yourself or your favourite species. Page managers for conservation organisation and project pages will probably want to use their organisation logos as the profile picture.

Your profile picture should be square, so it is a good idea to choose an image or logo that either has similar dimensions (150 x 150 pixels), or that can be cropped to this size; if you upload a larger image it will be automatically resized but a smaller image may look blurry.

  1. Log in to Izele and go to the page that you manage and want to change the profile picture.
  2. There should be a change image icon in the top left hand corner of the profile picture space Change image icon.png. When you point at the icon a message saying Update your profile picture should appear.
  3. Click on the change image icon to open the Update your profile picture dialog box. Follow the instructions to upload an image or drag and drop the file.
  4. The image should load and be displayed in the Update your profile picture dialog box.
  5. The profile picture is square and so you need to choose an image that either has similar dimensions or can be cropped to have the right dimensions.
  6. If the image already has the correct dimensions, click on the Save image button.
  7. If the image does not have the correction dimensions then click on the Crop image button. The image should now be greyed out, apart from a square near the centre of the image that has four white squares at its corners. You can move this square around the image and change its size by dragging and dropping the white squares. When you are happy with where the square is placed, click on Save image and the area you have selected will become your profile picture.
  8. Izele should return to your page and show your new profile picture. If you want to change the picture then just go through the steps above again with a new image.
