Love The Oceans is a non-profit Marine Conservation organisation working in Jangamo Bay, Mozambique since 2014. The region of Jangamo Bay is home to a wide range of marine life and Love The Oceans believes the region is a biodiversity hotspot and worth protecting. The organisation uses research, education and diving to drive towards a more sustainable future. Since 2014, Love The Oceans has continued to expand its research areas to help collect enough data to provide evidence for a Marine Protected Area (MPA). The research areas are as follows; elasmobranch and fisheries, biodiversity and coral reef assessments, megafauna sightings and most recently ocean trash. At Love The Oceans, education is paramount, and the core of the community led approach. The organisation works actively with local fishermen on sustainable fishing and Marine Resource Management to help start a transition towards more sustainable fishing techniques and a more sustainable outcome that will benefit both ecosystems and communities. The ultimate mission of the organisation is to establish a Marine Protected Area (MPA) in the Inhambane Province in Mozambique by using a bottom-up and community-led approach through research, education, and diving. The main objectives of the organisation are to; 1) Ensure sustainable fishing techniques in the region. 2) Increase data collection to see if a sustainable revenue can be generated from Megafauna species. 3) Improve education and community outreach, both generally and specifically to Marine Resource Management and Eco-tourism. 4) Improve data collection on habitat use and coral reef health to aid in the proposal for a Marine Protected Area (MPA). 5) Achieve self-sustainability within the local community.
